Wine

Today I decided it was time to sample the first batch of wine and rack it into a new container – I’m thinking in a week or two most everything will have settled out of it and it will be ready to bottle.

To my not-very-distinguished palate it tasted like a dry red wine. It seems to have lost some of the ruby red color it had the last time I racked it, and has more of a lighter reddish-purple hue. It will be interesting to see how much of that fades over the next few months.

  1. This is kinda inspiring to me. I’ve never been one for homemade hooch until Beau started feeding me this “wine” an old couple made from blackberries and peaches. Don’t think I’ve ever been so drunk in my life. “Hey, we can make his ourself?” Your stuff looks a bit classier.

Anyway, I guess growing some nice wine grapes will go along with my checklist of fields of raspberry bushes, various fruit trees, and of course, 250 tomato plants. Of course, we need to get a HOUSE first.. *cough*

  2. Can I suggest a house in Ann Arbor? It even comes with garden spots and 8 year old grape vines 😉

I mentioned at work that it seemed drinkable, and someone wants a few bottles (granted, beer bottles since that is all I have to bottle it in) to give as gifts. I told him to label it moonshine, then if it sucks they won’t be expecting much!
