Unless…are bugs considered fauna? ‘Cause we get to deal with bugs. The Master Gardener program is run by the state/county extension offices all over the US. I’m a MG trainee, and after I complete the oodles of classes and take a test I’ll be a MG intern. Then, after I complete about 50 hours of volunteering in educational-gardening-type activities, I get to be a real Master Gardener! Then, I get a name tag! In exchange for the training (and the name tag), MGs are expected to pay the county/state back by helping do the work of the extension office that they can’t do ’cause they got no money.
